When you take this kind of shot, you’ve got some creative choices open to you; kind of what Stavars has done here, you can expose the scene to achieve a similar level of light to what you’d expect from a daytime shot (most likely this is what your meter’s telling you to do), or you can expose 2-3 stops below this, which would give you a shot more representative of what you see with the naked eye.
There’s merit to both, but the former does give the pictures something a little different to them.
